Give yourself a break

Sometimes you just need a little bit of time off to disconnect and regroup.

Most of us have a fast-moving goal-driven lifestyle. We are constantly working endless hours a day to complete one task after the other, so the days go by. In a blink of an eye, we are more than halfway into the year, and we wonder where all these months went? Where did all this time go? Living this way, being caught up in work eventually will burn us out.

Occasionally, it is necessary to give ourselves a break. We need a little bit of time off to go on a holiday. Everyone’s life is different, so I understand that going on a holiday may sound like a luxury to someone reading this. But going on a holiday doesn’t have to be an extravagant vacation to an exotic island. It can be something as simple as having a staycation with friends and family or a weekend getaway somewhere near your hometown. The important thing is to have a few days to change the scenery around you and disconnect from your day-to-day reality. Trust me, especially now, during the pandemic, that most of us work from home, we need a few days away from it.

Another way to give yourself a break is to dedicate a day or even a few hours during the week to relaxation. If the weather is nice, go out with your friends or for a walk in nature; if not, reading a book, listening to music, or watching a movie will help you recharge your batteries. Generally, slowing down for a little bit to spend quality time with your loved ones or even alone will help you to unwind and destress.

Finally, making space for hobbies during your workdays will make them a lot more pleasant. Find a couple of activities that you enjoy and incorporate them into your days. It doesn’t matter if you practiced them before or if it is something that you always wanted to try. It can be anything from physical activity to playing a musical instrument or joining a book club; the choices are endless. Having hobbies is one of the best ways to give your brain a break and look after your mental health.

Completing tasks and achieving goals is essential. Hustling for your dreams is incredible. But working nonstop and burning out won’t help you in either of those. A life with the right balance between work and time off is a much better recipe for success.

As always, see you in my next post. Until then, I would love to read your opinion or experience on this topic in the comment section below.

Love, Mal
